Formed in 2000, NOPEC represents 126 communities in northeast Ohio.
The concept is simple NOPEC negotiates to buy natural gas and electricity in bulk at a discount rate, which it passes along to northeast Ohio residents.
NOPEC has saved northeast Ohio residents and businesses $80 million in utility costs.
In addition to its constant efforts to negotiate lower utility costs and thereby serve as an economic development tool for northeast Ohio, NOPEC also serves as an energy watchdog, or consumer advocate, constantly reviewing trends and developments that affect the cost of natural gas and electricity in greater Cleveland.
