Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council Negotiates Record Low Prices for Early Winter Natural Gas
NOPEC is extremely pleased that it has succeeded in securing record low prices for our customers heading into the early winter season.
The prices for NOPEC's Dominion Energy Solutions customers:
- September - $4.22 per MCF
- October - $4.22 per MCF
- November - $4.70 per MCF
- December - $4.70 per MCF
- January, February & March 2013 - $5.09 per MCF
The prices for NOPEC's Columbia of Ohio customers:
- September - $0.493 per CCF
- October - $0.493 per CCF
- November - $0.534 per CCF
- December - $0.534 per CCF
- January, February & March 2013 - $0.580 per CCF
For comparison, four years ago these prices were in the $11 to $12 per MCF range and just two years ago these prices were in the $7 per MCF range.
Joseph Migliorini, Chairman of NOPEC's Board of Directors, said the low gas prices will give a financial boost to Northeast Ohio.
"NOPEC is extremely cost-conscious and understands that there are plenty of our customers - particularly senior citizens - in our 173 member communities who are on fixed incomes," Migliorini said. "For NOPEC to negotiate a price for an important commodity such as natural gas that is substantially lower in price than it was two years ago is good news for NOPEC's customers. Since NOPEC was formed in 2000, we have saved Northeast Ohio more than $160 million in energy consumers' costs."
Chuck Keiper, NOPEC's Executive Director, said NOPEC will continue to aggressively work toward securing the lowest gas prices possible..
"The prices that we have secured through the end of 2012 for our customers are simply excellent," said Chuck Keiper, NOPEC's Executive Director. "Once again, NOPEC is bringing cost-saving energy value to our customers in 10 Northeast Ohio counties."
Keiper said " NOPEC expects to buy gas for the remaining part of the winter (January thru March, 2013) at prices comparable to the November-December prices that have already been secured."
"We are being diligent in our daily review of the market place," Keiper said. "We hope to deliver our best overall winter heating season pricing ever."
