NOPEC Locks in Lower Natural Gas Prices for Northeast Ohio
Tens of thousands of natural gas customers in northeast Ohio will be able to lock in low, fixed prices through the end of the year thanks to the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council. (NOPEC).
- NOPEC today announced that is has secured lower rates for NOPEC communities in both the Dominion East Ohio and Columbus Gas of Ohio service areas.
- NOPEC customers in the Dominion East Ohio service area will see rates dip to $8.99 per thousand cubic feet (MCF) of gas for June through October, 2009. An even lower rate of $8.42 per MCF will be in effect in November and December, 2009. A month-to-month variable rate is also available.
NOPEC customers in the Columbia Gas of Ohio service area will see a similar drop in prices of $8.99 per MCF for June through October, 2009. In November and December, that rate will fall even more, to $8.30 per MCF.
The average residential gas consumption in northeast Ohio is about 100 MCF annually. Just last year, the cost for gas per MCF was $14 or more.
“These are difficult economic times, but there is a silver lining for natural gas customers who are served by a nimble, aggressive organization such as NOPEC,” said Joseph Migliorini, chairman of NOPEC’s governing board. “We are seizing upon this drop in demand - and prices to lock in these very low prices for our residential and business customers.”
Leigh Herington, NOPEC’s executive director, said northeast Ohio is fortunate to be served by such a non-profit utility watchdog that works solely to secure the lowest gas and electric rates possible.
“NOPEC is a very lean, efficient organization,” Herington said. “We don’t have to answer to shareholders. We work hard to chip away at prices by using various techniques and methods such as buying in bulk.”
NOPEC which serves 126 communities in northeast Ohio is the nation’s largest non-profit utility aggregation. For more information call NOPEC at 1-888-848-7914.
