Mayor Rob Duncan Appointed to NOPEC Board

Mayor's appointment coincides with Huron County's addition to the expanding NOPEC community

SOLON- January 31, 2012 — Norwalk Mayor Rob Duncan has been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC).

Huron County is the tenth and newest county to join NOPEC, the largest governmental aggregation in the nation representing 162 member communities in Northeast Ohio. Non-profit NOPEC negotiates electricity and natural gas agreements to provide low rates and long-term stability for residents and businesses in NOPEC member communities.

Chuck Keiper, Executive Director of NOPEC, said “We are excited to welcome Huron County to our network. Mayor Duncan will be a tremendous resource as we work together to lower utility rates for residents and businesses in Huron County and throughout our expanding network in Northeast Ohio.”

Mayor Duncan previously worked as the North Central Ohio representative for the National Federation of Independent Business. He has also served as the President of the Huron County Soccer Club and Chairman of the Huron County Board of Elections.

“I am honored to represent Huron County on the NOPEC Board of Directors,” said Mayor Duncan. “The expanding network of NOPEC communities brings an ever-growing regional approach toward creating lower utility costs for hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses in Norwalk and throughout Northeast Ohio.”

Mayor Duncan earned a degree in theology from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. He is currently pursuing a second degree in American Government and Political Science at Regent University.

North Ridgeville Mayor G. David Gillock was also appointed to the NOPEC Board of Directors. He will represent Lorain County.

NOPEC is the largest non-profit government energy aggregation in the nation and uses no taxpayer dollars. Since its inception in 2000, NOPEC has aggressively used bulk buying techniques to reduce energy costs by nearly $100 million for northeast Ohio consumers – helping to make our region more affordable and more economically competitive. NOPEC is perhaps the best example today of successful regional cooperation in northeast Ohio.
